Lake County Victim Assistance, along with other agencies, will be hosting an event focused on what happens after a sexual assault.

#MeToo: What Happens Next? will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 25th at Lakeland Community College in room T-129. A young sexual assault survivor is among the speakers.

Sheri Sweeney, Lake County Victim Assistance Program director, said she’s seen twice as many calls to the sexual assault hotline in October, November and December in 2017 compared to 2016. The momentum has continued this year.

“Before victims did not want to come forward, but I feel like with the #MeToo movement, they feel empowered,” said Sweeney.

If you have been a victim of sexual assault, call the Lake County hotline at: 440-953-5823.
