Northeast Ohio businesses ready for first weekend of summer

LORAIN, Ohio - The first weekend of summer will also welcome the first heat wave of the season. As the temperature heats up, so will a lot of local businesses as people look for ways to stay cool.

Beaches from Lorain to Mentor will be busy as the mercury rises. The forecast calls for the first stretch of 90-degree weather this season.

That also means workers at hardware stores like Sutton Industrial Hardware on Prospect Avenue in Cleveland are preparing for the heat by stocking shelves with fans, cases of bottled water and their ice cream freezer is also freshly stocked.

Speaking of ice cream, Mitchell's Ice Cream in Rocky River is expecting its busiest weekend since last summer and extra staff is ready to scoop up key lime pie ice cream, butter pecan and a whole lot more.

Bruce Botchick with 72 Degrees Heating & Air Conditioning is already busy with increasing service calls as the temperature and the humidity increase.

Botchick is busy cleaning cottonwood from clogged coils in air conditioning units.

Botchick said it's just as important to change the air filter in your furnace in the heat of summer as it is during the cold of winter to keep the air circulating at optimal levels.
