Police are investigating a crash in which an elderly woman hit a pedestrian and two parked cars in the parking lot of Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain.
The crash happened Tuesday just after 11:30 a.m. at the medical building on Kolbe Road.
According to police, an 84-year-old woman was driving a 2001 Subara Forester eastbound through the roundabout near the patient entrance of the medical building when she lost control, accelerated and went up on the sidewalk.
The car then struck a pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk, launching him into a flower bed.
The vehicle then continued, hitting a parked 2011 Ford Taurus and a 2003 Buick Century.
The impact with the Buick caused the car to spin out. It then veered left, left the road again, hit a traffic sign and came to rest in the flower bed.
The 84-year-old Amherst woman was taken into Mercy Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries.
The pedestrian, a 71-year-old Amherst man, was seriously injured.
The road was closed for about three hours while debris from the crash was cleaned up.
The crash is currently under investigation. The 84-year-old woman will likely be sent to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to re-take a driver's test.
At this time, no charges have been filed.
