Dash cam: Montville service truck hits suspect's car in police chase

Ex-girlfriend says suspect planned suicide by cop

MONTVILLE, Ohio - A car fleeing from police in Montville was hit by a service department truck Thursday morning.

Police stopped a car on Montville Road just after 8 a.m., but once the officer was out of his cruiser, the driver sped off.

Police said the driver went down Stonebrooke Lane, onto a cul-de-sac, then back onto Montville Road. The driver didn't stop at Route 18 Windfall road. That's when the car crashed into the Montville Township Service Department vehicle, police said.

The service department truck, driven by road superintendent Dennis Clapper, had a green light, according to Montville police. Clapper was taken to Akron General Hospital for evaluation.

The suspect, a Brunswick man, was trapped in his car by the crash. He was removed and flown to MetroHealth Medical Center.

The suspect's ex-girlfriend told police she believed he was trying to commit suicide by cop and had a black BB gun, which looked like a semi-automatic, in his car. Police recovered the gun.
