Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating 2 separate fatal car crashes from Saturday

HOLMES AND STARK COUNTIES - The Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating 2 separate fatal car crashes that happened Saturday in  Holmes and Stark counties.

The first crash happened in Millersburg around 12:15 p.m. on State Route 83 just north of the Village of Millersburg.

A Chevy Trailblazer driven by 68-year-old Elaine Nelson of Rittman was southbound on SR 83 when she traveled left of center, striking the rear left quarter panel of a Honda Civic, then continued southbound in the northbound lane striking a Toyota Camry.

Nelson suffered serious injuries and was taken to Joel Pomerene Hospital where she was later flown by medical helicopter to Akron General Hospital.

None of the 3 passengers in the Honda Civic were injured. The driver of the Camry, 25-year-old Delmer Lainez of Millersburg was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passengers were 26-year-old Lucia De Alvarado and her 2-year-old daughter Kimberly. Lucia was treated and released for minor injuries. Kimberly was flown from Joel Pomerene Hospital to Akron Children's Hospital with critical injuries. This was the fifth fatal crash in Holmes County for 2013.

The second crash happened in Hartville, Ohio around 9:55 p.m. on State Route 43 between the intersections of Lake O Pines Street NE and State Street NE.

A Saturn SL2, driven by 24-year-old Mark Conti of Hartville,  was traveling south on SR 43 when he went left of center and was struck by a Chevrolet Colbalt in the right front passenger door. The Saturn was forced off the side of the east edge of the roadway where it overturned. Conti was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Colbalt, 21-year-old Anna Miller of Hartville, sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital where she was later flown by Med Flight to Akron City Hospital. 

Both crashes remain under investigation.
