Akron man accused of punching pregnant girlfriend who delivered stillborn baby after assault

AKRON, Ohio - An Akron man is accused of attacking his pregnant girlfriend, who delivered a stillborn baby.

Akron police said the 23-year-old victim got into an argument with her live-in boyfriend, 21-year-old Tyvon D. Ward, at about 1 a.m. on Thursday. That's when Ward started punching the woman, who was pregnant in her third trimester, in the stomach, police said.

The couple's 4-year-old son tried to stop his father, but was also attacked.

According to police, the woman was taken to Akron City Hospital, where she went into labor. Her baby was stillborn. The victim also suffered injuries to her face.

The 4-year-old was treated at Akron Children's Hospital for his injuries.

Ward was arrested on Friday, and charged with two counts of felonious assault, two counts of domestic violence and child endangering. He was taken to the Summit County Jail. More charges are expected.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 12 at 8 a.m.
