A Cleveland man was found guilty of charges connected with threatening to blow up a local high school, among other charges, the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office said on Friday.

Authorities said in January of 2015, Spirlin Edwards, 27, of East 137th Street, became violent toward his ex-girlfriend when he grabbed and shoved her to the ground.

A week later, four tires on the victim’s car were slashed while it was parked outside her workplace.

Officials also said the victim and her family began receiving multiple threatening text message and emails, which were traced back to Edwards.

The text messages contained death threats to the victim and her family, as well as threats that their home would be burned down.

On May 8, 2015, authorities said Edwards called in a bomb threat to Stow-Munroe Falls High School, causing almost 2,000 people to evacuate. The call was traced back to Edwards’ mother’s house, where he lived at the time of the incident.

Edwards was found guilty on the following charges:

  • Inducing panic – second-degree felony
  • 2 counts of telecommunications harassment – fifth-degree felonies
  • 2 counts of aggravated menacing – first-degree misdemeanors

Edwards is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 25 at 9 a.m.
