Hendon brothers of Akron to face death penalty for killing 3 in Barberton's New Year's Eve shooting

AKRON, Ohio - Summit Co. Prosecuting Attorney's Office will seek the death penalty against the two Hendon brothers accused of shooting four people and killing three in Barberton on New Year’s Eve, including two teens.

Michael Deon Hendon, 22, and his brother Eric Donta Hendon, 30, face three counts of aggravated murder each after police say the two went to a home on 7th Street NE to rob the residents of drugs and money on New Year's Eve.

Ashley Carpenter, 18, and David Carpenter Kohler, 14, were shot dead in the robbery.

John Kohler, 42, the stepfather and father, respectively, of Ashley and David, was pronounced dead at around 3:45 p.m. the following Friday at Akron City Hospital.

Kohler's girlfriend Ronda Blankenship was also shot.
