CLEVELAND — He inspired everyone and proved that you should never give up no matter the circumstances. Micah Herndon, a veteran from Tallmadge who made headlines after he crawled across the finished line, appeared on Good Morning America Wednesday to share his story.

Herndon competed in the marathon as a tribute to the memories of three men he knew while he served as a Marine in Afghanistan.

He told Robin Roberts on GMA that whenever he feels like giving up he just repeats their names: Mark Juarez, Matthew Ballard and Rupert Hamer.

When he knew he couldn't get his goal pace to qualify for the New York City Marathon, he had one mission to finish the race.

Organizers at the New York City Marathon were so moved by his story that they invited Herndon to run in the marathon this fall in Central Park.
