Death of an Ohio University freshman and Lake Catholic High School grad under investigation

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University Police Department is currently investigation the death of one of it's freshman students.

The OUPD Chief of Police Andrew D. Powers released the following statement Saturday:
"Officers and detectives from the Ohio University Police Department (OUPD) are currently investigating an unattended death that occurred in the early hours of August 31 in Atkinson Hall. Based on information known to police at this time, there is no reason to believe the death represents an ongoing threat to the safety of the community. OUPD is being assisted in their investigation by a crime scene unit from the Ohio Attorney General's office, Bureau of Criminal Investigation. No further details are available at this time. Any additional information will be communicated through the University's normal channels as it becomes available."

Ohio University's Dean of Students Jenny-Hall Jones sent out a campus-wide email identifying the student as freshman Michael Robinson, a Lake Catholic High School graduate and former football player from from Mentor, Ohio, according to the university's newspaper The Post.

Robinson was studying psychology and pre-physical therapy, lived in Foster House and his death was confirmed by Athens County emergency medical personnel, according the email from Hall-Jones.

Hall-Jones went on to say that counselors and residential housing staff are available to students at both Atkinson and Foster houses on South Green to provide support.
