ASHLAND, Ohio - The Ashland University women's basketball team has picked up right where they left off after last year's overtime loss in the Division II National Championship game in San Antonio.
Sue Ramsey's squad came out of the gate red hot this season, winning their first 25 games and running their regular season win streak to 49 overall before falling on the road earlier this month.
"I think as we ended last season and started this season. We knew it wasn't going to be a surprise and we knew that the goals and expectations would be high for us," Ramsey said.
Ramsey, who has been the head coach at Ashland for the last 18 years, watched her women hold on to the number one ranking in the country for the first nine weeks of the season before finally falling back to number three after the latest loss.
The Eagles are led by Kari Daugherty, who a year ago led the country in rebounding and double-doubles on her way to player of the year honors in Division Two. This year, the senior from Fresno, Ohio leads the GLIAC in scoring (22.5ppg) and rebounding (15.0 rpg)
Ashland has three games remaining in the regular season before the conference tournament. The Eagles, the are the number one seed, are guaranteed to host the tournament games at Kates Gym, where they have not lost since 2011
