Overanalyze favored in Arkansas Derby

Competitive Arkansas Derby

Last year Trainer Bob Baffert won the Arkansas Derby with Bodemeister and will now attempt back to back Arkansas Derby wins with two entries in tomorrow's race, Den's Legacy and War Academy.

Den's Legacy took third in the Rebel Stakes on March 16 and War Academy won an allowance race at Santa Anita his last time out in March.  Den's Legacy enters tomorrow's race with 20 points in the Derby point system and War Academy has none requiring him to win if he plans to head to Louisville the first weekend of May.

Trainer Todd Pletcher will enter Overanalyze who ran his last two races at Aqueduct and was favored in the $400,000 Gotham Stakes but finished fifth.  He has had a short layoff with some improvement and a Jockey change as Rafael Bejarano will now ride.  Rafael is experienced on the Oaklawn track and will need to make something happen here to gain enough points in the top three positions for an entry in the Kentucky Derby.  He is the morning line favorite with odds of 4/1.

Trainer Steve Asmussen will saddle Carve who has the inside post after finishing sixth in the Rebel Stakes on March 16 th.

Oxbow is the second choice in the field with odds of 5/2.  Veteran Jockey Gary Stevens will have this mount from the far outside post.  This colt is bred for distance and should enjoy stretching out in the field.

The field for this race is highly competitive and those coming from the far outside positions have a good success ratio, but Overanalyze is still the most accomplished horse in the field.  Under the new point system the points will be divided as follows:  100 win, 40 place, 20 show and 10 for forth.  Post time for the $1 million Arkansas Derby is 6:28pm (ET).
