Former Akron Center Zeke Marshall has worked out for 13 teams in preparation for Thursday's NBA Draft. Marshall will try to join the likes of Kris Kaman, Dan Roundfield, and Grant Long as Mid American Conference centers that have had long careers in the NBA.
Marshall was an elite shot-blocker in the MAC conference this past season. He averaged 3.6 blocks per game, and his 7'0 height has caught the attention of NBA scouts. His offensive game was also very impressive, as the Akron Center averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds per game.
Perhaps his most notable performance came in the midst of the MAC tournament against rival Kent State. He carried the zips to a 62-59 victory behind his 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 blocks.
"Keith Dambrot taught me how to push you past your limits" Marshall said, "and when you think you couldn't do anymore he would push you even more."
Marshall led the Zips all the way to a MAC championship and the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2010-11 season. His impressive stats and accolades have caught the attention of many NBA scouts.
NBA teams Marshall has worked out for include the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, and Los Angeles Lakers. His life for the past month has been traveling from city to city, and staying in hotel after hotel.
"It's a grind, but you have to keep pushing in this business", Marshall said.
However, his latest workout came full circle, as Marshall worked out for the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.
The Cavs are projected to take a Center in this year's draft. If they don't take one early, perhaps Marshall fits the bill.
Marshall will be watching the NBA draft with his family and friends this Thursday.
