Late-summer storms blast through Northeast Ohio

A series of storms rolled across Northeast Ohio on Thursday bringing down power lines and utility poles in some areas and leading to a Tornado Warning issued for others.

Residents of Middlefield Township in Geauga County said a tornado came down briefly in the area. The National Weather Service has not confirmed a tornado touchdown at this time.

The Geauga County Sheriff's Office said some wires and poles were damaged in the 16765 block of Nauvoo Road.

The NWS issued a Tornado Warning for Geauga, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties until 3:30 p.m.

A Severe Storm Warning was also issued for southwestern Cuyahoga County, northeastern Medina County, northwestern Summit County and east-central Lorain County but later downgraded. The warning expired at 3:15 p.m. 

A large structure in the 14500 block fo Madison Road was damaged during the storms, according to a neighbor. A local business employee said the facility was being built as a workshop for children with special needs.
