A 6-month old boy was taken to Akron Children's Hospital after a suspected opioid overdose, according to Akron police.

Police were called to the 700 block of Boulevard Street around 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 22.

The baby was found unresponsive on the living room floor. Police suspect the baby ingested some type of an opiate and consider the case to be an "unintentional overdose."

Police expect the infant to be okay.

No charges have been filed. Police are waiting on toxicology results.

The baby and another child in the home have been placed in the care of Summit County Children Services.

Five Akron children have overdosed from suspected opioids this year, police said.
