A woman was killed after a tree struck her car while on River Styx Road in Montville Friday.

Montville Police say a woman in her mid 20s was driving southbound in a white SUV when a tree fell onto the car at the drivers side door.

There was an infant in the car, the woman's child, less than two-years-old, strapped in the back seat, according to police.

When first responders arrived at the scene between Turnberry and Lake Ridge Drives, the woman was already dead.

Her car remained in a ditch until about 4 pm when workers extracted it. The Medina County Coroner retrieved the woman’s body from the scene.

“It appears as if the tree broke when it hit the vehicle so the vehicle continued off the roadway and into the woods," said Lieutenant Matt Neil with the Montville Township Police Department. "Once it’s determined that someone is obviously deceased, we have to wait for the coroner. The child was removed immediately by ambulance to Medina Hospital."

The child was taken later to Akron Children’s Hospital and is in good condition.
