A 36-year-old mother is facing charges after police say she left her naked child alone in a Dollar General bathroom while she shoplifted from the store.

According to the Stark County Sheriff's Office, Mary I. Waguespack was arrested Tuesday and charged with endangering children and theft.

Police said Waguespack brought her child to the Dollar General store on Union Avenue in Alliance shortly before 8 p.m. on Dec. 5.

While allegedly shoplifting, Waguespack opened a fire escape and set off a fire alarm.  The child left the bathroom and ran around the store before finally being corralled by the mother, authorities said.

According to court records, Waguespack was on probation at the time of the incident for a disorderly conduct charge.
