Forty-eight cats and two turtles were taken from 354 Lucca Street on Monday, according to the Wooster City Law Director. The woman who lived there is reportedly a hoarder.

Officials say the woman had been living there for 20 years, but the home was condemned in the last couple of months. The woman refused to move.

The law director says the ammonia levels inside the home, caused by the uncleaned litter boxes, exceeded the levels of a meth lab.

Authorities say some of the kittens died and animal cruelty charges are pending.

The law director says hoarders living in condemned homes is common in Wooster.
