The Orrville-based J. M. Smucker Company is eliminating 260 corporate administrative positions as part of the company's plan to increase cost reduction efforts.
A spokesperson for the company said the actions are "necessary due to the external dynamics facing our industry and our intent to protect and over time, increase the investments we are making in our brands and new capabilities."
According to the spokesperson, many of the 260 positions were already unfilled. Approximately 130 positions will be eliminated through the organization realignment, and roughly another 130 vacant positions will not be filled.
Seventy-two of the positions are based in Orrville.
The company plans to provide severance and outplacement services to the impacted employees.
"These are difficult decisions and ones that we approach very thoughtfully, given their potential impact on our people," a company spokesperson told News 5.
