With Joe Biden and Kamala Harris projected to win the 2020 presidential election, becoming the president-elect and vice president-elect, many officials across Ohio have sounded-off on the news.

Lt. Gov. Jon Husted took to Twitter Saturday, noting his support for President Donald Trump but aalso to encourage citizens to “honor the outcome” when officials declare the final results.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson issued the following statement regarding the 2020 presidential election:

I want to take this moment to thank all of the citizens of the City of Cleveland for their support of Issue 68. It is because of you, our children have a brighter future. I also want to congratulate President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris on their historic win and for their willingness to serve and take on the challenges facing the nation. I have always said that public service is an honorable profession and it is not made for everyone; for those who choose to serve have the greatest opportunity to influence the lives of individuals, families and communities.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement about the call that Biden and Harris have won the election:

President-Elect Joe Biden’s story is one of loss, perseverance, and strength. He is a good and wise man, and his election proves that our country is choosing truth, decency, and unity over lies and division. Our country needs his and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris’s leadership now more than ever. We have work to do to address the challenges facing us: this pandemic, crippling inequality, systemic racism, climate change, and creating an economy that works for everyone. Biden and Harris are ready to restore hope and civility to the White House, come together to keep our democracy strong, and ensure that all work has dignity in this country.

Ohio Representative Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) rejected the projection, saying that it isn’t over and telling Trump to “Carry on, Mr. President.”

Ohio Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) issued her congratulations to Biden and Harris on Saturday.

Representative Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement congratulating Biden and Harris:

I am pleased to congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for being elected the next President and Vice President of the United States. Through his leadership, empathy and dedication to bringing us together, President-Elect Biden has demonstrated why he is the right President for this moment. He has never stopped fighting to restore the soul of America, and I know he will maintain his commitment to do what is in the interest of every American, not just those who supported him at the ballot box. From his first day in office onward, President-Elect Biden will restore integrity, decency, and honor to the White House.

I could not be prouder of Senator Harris for making history by becoming the first woman, Black woman and Asian American Vice President. She has shattered the next glass ceiling, but she will not stop there. A fearless trailblazer and an unparalleled public servant, Vice President-Elect Harris is uniquely positioned to deliver on the transformational change we so desperately need.

In an election of record-breaking turnout, the American people have made clear who we are and who we aspire to be. Difficult times are ahead, but I have no doubt President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris have what it takes to help us build back better. I look forward to working with them to tackle the challenges ahead, from defeating the pandemic to addressing the racial and economic inequality that continues to grip our nation.

Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) released the following statement:

Congratulations to the new President and Vice President-Elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Thank you to all voters for their patience as each and every ballot was counted. It is clear the American people turned out in record numbers in favor of democracy, liberty, and compassion. With Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, we could not have asked for a better pair of leaders to unify the country, take on the coronavirus pandemic, and spur economic growth to create opportunity for all. I am confident that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be President and Vice President for every American. I look forward to working closely with President-Elect Joe Biden to bring our country together. Compassion and empathy will be our guiding principles in that effort as we work to restore political and economic power to working people and families.
