AKRON, Ohio — A standoff that lasted for several hours in Akron Tuesday ended Tuesday evening after law enforcement authorities entered the home and found a man deceased inside.

Akron police said around 10:30 a.m., a Summit County municipal court bailiff attempted to serve an eviction at a home on Wilbeth Road.

The resident, a 62-year-old man, told the bailiff he had a gun. Investigators said one shot was fired from inside the apartment. Police do not believe the shot was aimed at anyone.

Akron police responded to the home mid-day Tuesday.

After Akron police responded to the scene, SWAT arrived in an armored truck at about 1:30 p.m. A special response team from the Ohio State Highway Patrol also responded.

At about 2:30 p.m., SWAT began firing rounds of tear gas into the apartment.

At about 5:50 p.m., officers entered the home and found the resident deceased inside. Akron police confirmed that no shots were fired by authorities.
