CLEVELAND — Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration seized thousands of THC cartridges for vape pens in the Cleveland area.

“It’s illegal. It’s THC. It’s marijuana,” said DEA Assistant Special Agent in Charge Keith Martin.

The vape cartridges are filled with THC oil. “It’s a chemical from the marijuana plant. It’s extracted, and it’s mixed with another substance and placed into a cartridge and sold on the street,” explained Martin.

Recently, DEA agents seized more than 15,000 THC cartridges. “I would say we were surprised at the amount,” added Martin.

Once the cartridge is out of the box, the drug is nearly impossible to detect. “You could be sitting next to someone smoking a THC cartridge and not even know it,” said Martin.

There have been seizures in neighboring states like Pennsylvania and Indiana. In Pennsylvania, not only did police recover the drugs, but $3.5 million in cash.
