LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Lakewood police have started handing out tickets to people whose cars are covered in snow and haven’t moved in 24 hours. Police want people to clean off and move snowed-in cars from snowed-in spots on city streets. If not, police said, drivers will be ticketed or towed.

News 5 found several cars with tickets on windshields.

“The car that has been buried for two days after the snowstorm and taking up space needs to move,” said Lakewood Police Chief Tim Malley.

Malley said snowplows need to be able to clear the streets.

“We’re dealing with snow now, but this is a year round event in Lakewood. You can’t leave a car on the street for 24 hours without moving it,” added Malley.

The city also requires sidewalks to be cleared.
