Shaker Heights police and fire pulled a body from Green Lake after reports of a person falling through the ice.

Police say they were following a suspect after a resident in the 17000 block of Chagrin Blvd. called police about an abandoned vehicle in their driveway. The vehicle was found to be stolen from a Shaker resident.

Officers followed footprints from the stolen vehicle onto Green Lake. The footprints led to a hole in the ice.

Safety resources were put in use to ensure nobody was under the ice. Crews also actively searched the area for him.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Nicholas Horvath, 37, of Seven Hills was found under the ice. Officers say he was under the ice for about an hour to an hour and a half.

Horvath was taken to a nearby hospital where medical staff continue to try to revive him, but were unsuccessful. According to the Shaker Heights fire department, it is not unheard of for a person to survive a situation like this due to hypothermia setting in.

Police also say the department received a call about an abandoned vehicle in the 17000 block of Scottsdale Blvd. It was later discovered that this vehicle was stolen from Cleveland. Footprints from this scene were similar to the footprints found at the scene on Chagrin Blvd.

The investigation is ongoing.
