Posted

A man died after he crashed his car into a tree Saturday afternoon.

According to Lorain police, 37-year-old Edward Smedley of Elyria was driving westbound on Cooper Foster Park Road around 12:17 p.m. when his car traveled to the right side of the road near the intersection with Orchard Hill Boulevard. Smedley hit a tree before his car came to a final rest.

Smedley sustained fatal injuries from the crash and was extracted from his vehicle by the Lorain Fire Department. After, he was taken to the Lorain County Morgue.

The incident is still under investigation. At this time it's unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. Police say excessive speed does appear to be a factor.
