AURORA, Ohio — You can likely thank a local manufacturer, Automation Plastics, for your great hair day. That is because they make the little plastic components in spray bottles, among a lot of other important parts.

In our promise to help Northeast Ohio rebound from the pandemic we're showing you how they're hiring.

Samantha Dunfee never saw herself working in manufacturing.

"This is my first time in a job like this," she said. "I was really nervous, but honestly it's an awesome job!"

She has been an operator at Automation Plastics in Aurora for two years.

"The machine that I'm running, I'm doing an automated press today," she said pointing to her workspace." I'm actually running parts for the Jeep Wrangler."

She described what the work is like: "I take parts out of the press and I do visual inspection and I trim it if it needs trimmed, and then I package it up."

The automotive industry is just one area Automated Plastics provides hundreds of crucial pieces for. From big parts to tiny little pieces in bottles like hair spray and cleaners, business has increased during the pandemic and the company is hiring.

"We're willing to train any of the positions," said Desirae Metcalfe, human resources director for Automation Plastics. "We try to start them off as an operator and move them from there to inspection and then wherever they'd like to go from there."

Metcalfe says they do 40-hour weeks with optional overtime.

"We're looking for integrity," she said about new hires. "We have core values that we live by and that's mainly what we're looking for to see if they fit into our core values."

Dunfee says it's a comfortable environment that feels like a second home to her.

"I really enjoy what I'm doing, and I think that's what matters," she said.
