CLEVELAND — With Mother’s Day right around the corner, Baker Mayfield shared a heartfelt letter he wrote to his mother Gina Mayfield. What he didn’t know was that his mother was in the next room watching him as he read the letter that brought her to tears.

"There is no handbook on parenting, but if there was, you would be the author. The way you showed unconditional love through every up and down, and a few self-inflicted mistakes along the way, you've never stopped believing in me, pushing me to do more," Baker read.

He recalled a road trip he took with his mother that didn't go as planned. It involved a crash and a bad rental.

"Taught me how to push through adversity. Always putting others above yourself. You’re a perfect role model and I’m so thankful to be your son,” he said.

At the end of his letter, his mother came out of another room where she had been watching Mayfield read the letter.

When she walked out of the room, Mayfield was surprised that his mother was listening the entire time.

"It's nice she could not only read it on paper but hear it come out of my mouth," Mayfield said.
