RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Cleveland Browns have one of the most loyal fanbases in the league, but one fan took his loyalty to the next level when he named his first born son after the team’s quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Ryan Tramel and his wife Krista Tramel are avid Browns fans from Rainsville, Alabama who welcomed their first child into the world on Friday— a bouncing baby boy.

When the couple found out they were pregnant, they couldn’t fully agree on a name, until a joke turned into a full-blown promise.

“After the Browns beat the Bengals last year, I was coming off an emotional high and joked with Krista that if Baker retweeted a tweet, she would agree to name our unborn child [after him],” Ryan said.

In November 2018, Ryan took to Twitter with the request for a retweet from Mayfield.

The tweet read: “My wife says if you retweet this, she will allow us to name our kid “Baker” that’s due in June, but that’s the only way she will consider it. Do it for the kids, literally #Baker @bakermayfield.”

Within an hour of posting the tweet, the couple got exactly what they asked for. Mayfield quoted their tweet and said “ I love it, can’t wait to see a picture of the little man”

“I didn’t even know if it was a boy or not at the time so you could say I was feeling lucky or ‘dangerous,'” Ryan said.

Luckily a few weeks after the tweet was shared by Mayfield, the Tramels found out they were having a boy.

After months of waiting for the birth of their son, he arrived. A healthy six pound, 11 ounce baby boy, born into Browns fandom.

Ryan said he plans on instilling his love for the Browns into his son, who is named Michael Baker Tramel.

Michael is a family name, and Ryan’s actual first name, but the baby will go by his middle name just like his father does.

Although Ryan and Krista are from Alabama, Ryan’s mother is from Cleveland, so he’s been a Cleveland sports fan all of his life.

“I remember as a little boy watching the Indians’ run in the 90s, keeping up with play-by-play of the Browns during DSL internet via Cleveland Browns chat rooms because Browns games weren’t televised in Alabama,” Ryan recalled.

Although the couple loves their Cleveland sports, they said any other children they have in the future won’t have the same kind of namesake.

“This will probably be on it in regards to naming our children after Cleveland pro athletes but we’re more than happy on how Baker’s named turned out,” Ryan said. “It’s an awesome story and I am super thankful for all the support of the Browns family.”

The Tramels are enjoying their time with new baby Baker in Alabama but look forward to bringing him to Cleveland for a visit.

“Krista and I think the world of [Baker Mayfield]. We were more than happy to hold up our side of the deal and we look forward to hopefully being able to make the trip up to Cleveland sometime to watch Baker’s unofficial godfather in real life,” Ryan said.
