Some dads and sons have a special handshake. Devon and his father Gregory have a whistle. In the episode, which is now on HBO, Gregory Cajuste is seen watching his son from the sidelines, communicating with him through a whistle only they understand—it's a special bond that's something to watch as it unfolds.
But it's not the only bond they share.
Devon's father has had a slew of health issues and revealed during the show he had a third heart attack his son didn't know about. It's an emotional scene that reveals just how important these two are to each other.
At 13 years old, Devon was told his father only had five years to live. At 25, he reflected on the emotional journey they've had together and shared words of wisdom from his father.
He says his dad told him, "You know one thing, no matter how hard it gets in anything that you do, don't ever quit. Don't ever stop. Don't let anybody tell you that you can't do something. I don't care how bad you think you can't do something or you're not good enough. If the world is weighing on you, we're Cajustes."
Gregory flew into Cleveland to be there for his son during training camp.
"Every time I show up, that kid is on fire. I'm not going anywhere. He's my best friend," Devon's father said.
