The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement that will be in effect from 6 a.m. on Sunday morning until 8p.m. at night.

The statement has been issued for all beaches from Lucas County to Ashtabula County.

News 5 meteorologist Janessa Webb says Northeast winds will build waves up to 3 to 5 feet in the morning, with waves occasionally reaching 6 feet during the day.

What this means for beach goers is to avoid the waters of Lake Erie on Sunday. These waves will create high risk swimming conditions and dangerous currents.

The combination of wind and large waves will include rip currents and longshore currents that can create life-threatening conditions even for good swimmers.
