5-year-old boy killed in Lorain crash

A 5-year-old boy was killed in a crash Friday afternoon in Lorain. 

Jaxon L. Artidiello was a backseat passenger in a 2000 Ford Taurus when it was a struck in the rear by a Freightliner as it stopped at a traffic light at 1:46 p.m. on Kolbe Raod, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol news release. 

The driver of the Ford was identified as Denise M. Artidiello, 51, of Lorain, Ohio. Artidiello was wearing her safety belt and suffered minor injuries. She was taken to Mercy Health Lorain, where she was treated and released. 

Jaxon was in a booster seat at the time of the crash. He was airlifted to MetroHealth Hospital with serious injuries. He later died at the hospital. 

The Freightliner was being driven by James Bartoul, 52. He was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. 

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be the cause of the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Any charges would be pending the results of the investigation, the release.
