AVON, Ohio — A single-engine plane went down in a cornfield in Avon Saturday evening, according to the City of Avon Police Department.

Around 5 p.m., a two-seater plane occupied by a flight instructor and a licensed pilot was traveling to Burke Lakefront Airport from Lorain County Airport, police said.

The plane was flying at approximately 2,500 feet when the engine suddenly quit, forcing the plane to glide down to an open cornfield on Chester Road, according to police.

Once officers and the Avon Fire Department arrived on scene, they located the plane and the two passengers outside of the plane.

No one was injured in the incident and the plane did not sustain any damage during the landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration advised police that the pilot and flight instructor will be contacted for a follow up investigation.
