One fisherman's quiet night on the water turned into a daring rescue when he reeled in a bigger catch than he expected.

According to the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Regina Miller was swimming with her sister around 2 a.m. on Thursday when she got sucked into the Charles Mill dam in Mifflin Township, east of Mansfield.

Jared Tims, a 39-year-old fisherman from Fredericktown in Knox County, was on the other side of the dam, saw the teen floating away and jumped into the water to rescue her. Once back on shore, he started CPR. EMS and deputies responded and Miller was rushed to a hospital in Mansfield

"I don't think there was a decision. I just went. Threw my pole, just went straight in. It wasn't even a forethought or anything. I just went in," Tims said.

As of Thursday afternoon, the girl remained in critical condition.

"I just hope they're able to get her to come back around and she's alright. I just hope that anyone would have done the same thing for me," Tims said.
