6 things to never share on Facebook

Posted

Facebook is more popular than ever, with many people now using it as their top source for news and information.

And we share our daily activities and photos all the time with our Facebook friends.

But despite that popularity, there are still some things you should never post on the social media site.

Things to Keep to Yourself

Facebook is all about sharing: But a USA Today article by tech guru Kim Komando lists four things that you should keep to yourself.

1. Your cell phone number. Marketers and scammers search Facebook for them. Even if you post it in your private timeline, viewable only to friends, you have already shared it too much. Accounts of friends can get hacked.

2. Your home address. Don't post it for the same reason. You don't need creepers to find you on Facebook and easily find your house where that 75 inch Samsung TV you just bragged about buying hangs all day while you are at work.

3. Complaints about your workplace. Your employer will find out about it, guaranteed.  People talk, and share things, and if you post about how your boss is a jerk, or you work for the most boneheaded management team in America, that management team will be sure to learn about it.

4. Your credit card number. Facebook now wants it so you can easily buy things. But that can lead to accidental charges or fraud.

5. Anything that could embarrass you, ruin your marriage or get you fired. Don't post any photo if it could lead to embarrassment or trouble. And if you party a lot, turn off tagging. (Here's how.) That way your friends don't tag you in photos of your big drunken night out, making it visible to your boss and future employers.

The Bottom Line

Anything you post on Facebook or anywhere else on social media can come back to haunt you in the future. You can delete it, but if someone has shared it, it can live on.

So be careful what you share, so you don't waste your money.
