The American Red Cross has set-up a staging area for its heavy trucks filled with disaster relief supplies at its Akron location and W. Market for the RNC in Cleveland.

Supply trucks and a mobile communications center were brought in from Columbus, Dayton and other parts of the region.

Red Cross spokesman Todd James told newsnet5.com 70 staff members are ready, along with another 100 volunteers who are on stand-by should the worst happen during the Republican National Convention.

The trucks are filled with 1000 cots, 2000 blankets and 1000 personal hygein comfort kits.

"The two big things is giving them a safe place to stay, and good warm meal when they need it," said James. "So we've got several mobile kitchen facilities and trained volunteers that are ready to feed a couple of thousand people."

James said supplies are already stashed in various areas around the RNC event zone for quick deployment.

James said the American Red Cross is ready but it could always use more volunteers.

The Salvation Army is also involved.

Major Larry Shade told newnet5.com his team will set up four mobile canteens for first responders in the RNC event zone, with water and other provisions.

"I think it's important people realize the dangers that are out there," said Shade.  "People can pass-out, hydration is so very critical."

The canteens will be located at Ontario at St. Clair (near the Justice Center), East 14th at Sumner Avenue, East 16th at Lakeside and at East 21st at Payne Avenue.

Volunteer doctors will be available along the protest route.

Larry Bresler with Organize Ohio said the doctors are being provide through the Rust Belt Physicians Program.

"If anybody has a medical problem, if they fall and hurt themselves, if they have a heat problems,  whatever it is they're going to be available," said Bresler.
