CLEVELAND — U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge led a press conference Wednesday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church to announce the formation of the Black Elected Democrats of Cuyahoga County.

The organization was created to advance African American interests and increase participation in public affairs.
“Now is the time for elected African Americans to organize and work more closely together so that our interests are aligned and well represented throughout decision-making processes,” said Fudge, who will serve as the group’s president. “African Americans continue to face multiple issues throughout our society that must be addressed at the highest levels of government.”
In attendance will be State Representatives Janine Boyd and Terrance Upchurch, County Clerk of Courts Earl Turner, Garfield Councilwoman Shayla Davis, Warrensville Heights Councilwoman Kimberly Edwards, Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell, Cleveland Councilmen Anthony Hairston and Joseph Jones, County Councilman Pernel Jones and East Cleveland City Councilman Nathaniel Martin.
