Kids of University Hospitals: Luke

Posted
and last updated

This is Luke.

He's the first child we talked to as part of a series we are working on with University Hospitals and Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Luke is currently battling stage 4 neuroblastoma, a diagnosis he received on March 22.

Right now, he's in the hospital recovering after his first stem cell transplant.

Though Luke was shy when we went to visit this week, his mother told us about the family's experience since Luke's diagnosis.

He may be sick right now, she said, but he doesn't let that keep him down.

"He’s a little fighter, he’s a little champ, he’s a little beast. We call him 'Luke the beast.'"

Throughout September, you’ll see stories, like his, on our Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as on newsnet5.com.

Find information about how to donate to University Hospitals here. With this project, Luke's family hopes to raise awareness about a non-profit organization called Roc 4NB Cure, which was created by John and Stacy Rocco after their daughter Julia was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. The organization provides money for medical bills, travel expenses, second opinions, etc. to families fighting pediatric cancers. Learn more and find out how to donate here.
