A major Nashville interstate was shut down for two hours Tuesday while officers talked a man down from atop a highway sign.

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department have reopened the North and South bound lanes of Interstate 65 at Rosa Parks Boulevard.

Several officers and first responders closed Interstate 65 at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday because of a man who had climbed the interstate sign above the roadway.

Officers in a bucket lift negotiated with the man for nearly two hours.

Traffic was backed up for miles while drivers tried to find detours.

It was unclear why the man climbed the sign.
