Authorities say a 13-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a car loaded with meth on Interstate 70 in Mesa County.
The juvenile and two adult passengers were arrested Tuesday morning after members of the Western Colorado Drug Task Force stopped the Dodge Avenger just over the Utah border near Fruita.
Pending charges suggest the underage driver failed to stay in his lane as he sped down the interstate.
During the traffic stop, police searched the vehicle and found 25 pounds of suspected methamphetamine wrapped in 23 individual bundles, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.
The two passengers, German Michel-Arreola, 22, and Irene Michel-Arreola, 19, all from Los Angeles, are facing felony drug charges in connection with Tuesday’s traffic stop.
The suspected 13-year-old driver is facing similar felony drug charges and additional charges of driving without a license.
The two adults are being held in the Mesa County Detention Facility. The juvenile was booked into the Grand Mesa Youth Services Center in Grand Junction.
