Akron man found guilty of strangling woman, setting her corpse on fire

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man who strangled a woman and set her corpse on fire in 2018 has been found guilty of her murder.

According to the Summit County Prosecutor's Office, Daniel Lee Jones, 47, has been found guilty of two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault, two counts of tampering with evidence and one count of gross abuse of a corpse.

The murder happened on Sept. 23, 2018, at an apartment in Akron.

Authorities said that Jones and the victim, Kerri Blondheim, 44, got into an argument and he strangled her, breaking every bone in her throat.

After her death, Jones dumped Blondheim's body in a wooded area near the border of New Franklin and Barberton, covered it with a mattress and set it on fire.

Jones is scheduled to appear back in court on Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. for sentencing.
