The president of the Akron Police Union has died after a long battle with cancer.
Paul Hlynsky began his career with the Akron Police Department in 1992 and was elected president of the Akron FOP in 1997. During his time, Hlynsky was re-elected eight times, serving 18 years as the Federal Order of Police president.
Mayor Fusco shared his condolences, calling Hlynsky "a man of true conviction."
I extend my prayers and my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and fellow officers for their loss. Above all, I express the sincere gratitude of the City for Paul’s twenty-three years of dedicated service and leadership in this community.
