Akron woman going to prison for fatal crash

Posted

An Akron woman will go to prison for two years after her drunk driving led to a fatal crash, killing her 21-year-old female passenger, the Summit County Prosecutor's Office reported.

Officials said Jessica Francis, 23, was sentenced to two years in prison after her blood alcohol content was tested at three times the legal limit when she was driving drunk, resulting in a car crash that killed her passenger, Haley Hopkins.

Officials said Francis' driver's license was also suspended for life.

On Feb. 3, she pled guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle while impaired, officials said.

On July 31, 2015, according to officials, Francis was speeding, lost control of the car, went off the road, and hit several trees. Cuyahoga Falls police determined she was intoxicated while driving the car. Hopkins, 21, died in the crash.
