Every Akron police officer will be equipped with a body camera by the end of September and the department is making sure the public knows about it.
According to Lt. Rick Edwards, the body cameras were paid for by a federal grant. To meet the conditions of the grant, the department embarked on a public awareness campaign.
"One of the best ways is to put it on the sides of buses because they travel all over, not just Akron, but Summit County," Edwards said.
The police department is also notifying residents of the body cameras by inserting fliers into their water bills.
