An Akron woman was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly stole her ex-boyfriend's car because she said he beat her up for refusing to have a threesome with his current girlfriend.

Maricia Pruiett, 21, of Akron, was charged with driving under suspension, failure to control, leaving the scene of an accident, theft of a motor vehicle, obstructing official business and drug possession.

According to the police report, the man stopped at his girlfriend's apartment for a moment and left the car running. He told police that while inside the apartment, he saw his ex-girlfriend jump in the car and drive off at a high rate of speed.

The man captured the incident on camera and then contacted police.

Pruiett crashed the car into a tree a short distance from the apartment. The car sustained heavy damage in the crash and all of the airbags were deployed, the report said.

Police found Pruiett hiding behind a nearby building. When officers tried to approach the woman, she ran away and led them on a short foot chase, according to the report.

Officers asked her what happened after she was apprehended and according to the report, Pruiett told police, "my boyfriend beat me up because I wouldn't have a threesome with him and his girlfriend."

When police encountered Pruiett after the crash, she was covered in cuts and bruises and was bleeding from the face but declined to be treated by EMS.

Pruiett admitted to stealing the car but said the only reason she took the vehicle was to get away from her boyfriend, the report said.

She told officers her boyfriend had been standing in the street and she crashed the car to avoid hitting him.
