LeBron James mourns Akron homicide victim, says family needs answers

AKRON, Ohio — LeBron James is demanding justice after a friend's sister was killed in a fatal Akron shooting.

He tweeted on Wednesday that his friend's sister, Ericka Weems, was murdered in Akron this weekend.

Weems body was found on Monday with a gunshot wound to the head.

LeBron said his friend's family need answers to why and by whom.

Loved ones described Weems as loving and caring. She graduated from Akron Buchtel High School and Ohio State University. She enjoyed traveling and had many friends, her family told News 5.

"She just loved and cared about everybody. She had the biggest heart," said her brother, Brandon Weems. "I'm going to miss her dearly."

LeBron played basketball with Brandon Weems, who also works for the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers released the following statement on Ericka Weems death:

"The entire Cavaliers organization was terribly saddened to learn about the recent tragic death of Brandon Weems’ sister Ericka. Our hearts are heavy and filled with pain over this senseless act. We express our deepest condolences to Brandon, the entire Weems family, their loved ones, and the Akron community. We will be with Brandon throughout this extremely difficult time and will offer our assistance and resources to help find justice for Ericka."
