AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating after someone broke into the Polish Legion of American Veterans POST 32 Veterans Club, then used a torch to open a large safe and steal thousands of dollars.

On Tuesday, the manager reported to police that he came in to check on the bar and noticed the large safe in the office was open.

An unknown person forced open a door on the south side of bar, went to office and used a torch to open the safe, where cash was kept with other important documents, the police report states. The person broke into cabinets and took cash from there as well. The door on the east side of the building was left unlocked.

About $6,000 was stolen from the safe and cabinets, according to the police report. A Facebook post from a bar representative states that the thief stole not only money, but also liquor from the bar.

The representative for PLAV Post 32 Veterans Club expressed their disbelief and outrage on Facebook.

The post states, in part: “You will be caught and you will go to jail. I will make it my life's mission to make sure you rot in there. When you steal from a Veteran that makes you the lowest piece of S--T out there.”

The bar’s Facebook post also states they believe this was an inside job.

“I ask the members of this post to help me bring these people to Justice,” the post states. “I'm also asking you to share this to get the word out there. Somebody heard something, somebody seen something, and somebody knows something. Help a brother out!”
