Cleveland leaders agree the cities RNC security effort was greatly assisted by officers brought in for the convention from 21 other states.
550 officers from the Cleveland Police Department where added to create an overwhelming police presence that was quickly able to subdue protester unrest.
It was the Indiana State Police that played a role in controlling a public square flag burning incident on July 20, that resulted in 17 arrests.
Indiana State Police Captain Bob Burke told newsnet5.com the Cleveland RNC security effort is the biggest he's seen.
"No I don't think there's every been anything like this," said Burke. "I think it's monumental, maybe historic as far as this has never been done to this kind of level before."
Cleveland Police Deputy Chief Ed Tomba told newsnet5.com more than 3000 officers from California to Maine were called in to help with RNC security.
"What's taken place in law enforcement in the last month has been really challenging for all of us," said Tomba. "Then to put out the call and have such an overwhelming response, we couldn't have done it without them."
Tomba said he's been in talks with police in Philadelphia about the Democratic National Convention that will be held next week.
Tomba said he told them strength in numbers is key, as well as a large, well coordinated bike unit in dealing with protesters.
