A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend's infant.

Justin Tyler Layne was arrested by the U.S. Marshals on Thursday at a residence on the 5000 block of Aurora Street Northwest, Canton. A warrant was issued on murder and child endangering charges by Perry Township authorities on Wednesday after an investigation indicated the child died from injuries "consistent with child abuse."

The baby died on Nov. 29, 2017, authorities said. According to court records, Layne married his girlfriend 10 days after the baby died.

“This is a terrible case, the murder of an infant. Our Task Force moved quickly to make the arrest on this case and work for justice for the innocent victim,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said.

Layne's arraignment is scheduled for July 20.
