CLEVELAND — Spreading the power of love in Northeast Ohio is the mission of a unique gathering that took place in Public Square Sunday afternoon.

During the annual Circle the City with Love event, people hula hooped, danced and joined each other in laughter.

Started by a sister with the congregation of St. Joseph in 2016, the goal of the event is to unify the community.

The leaders of the movement have a simple message.

“We can have the power to spread love and that the only power that can overcome hate is the power of love,” Karen Komondor said. “So that's what our message is, and that we just have to act in kindness to one another and that's what's really most important."

In the time between the annual event, the group holds smaller “circles of love” in individual Cleveland neighborhoods throughout the year.

The next goal of Circle the City with Love is to take a group to Washington D.C. before the 2020 presidential election and spread a message of love and unity there.
