Cleveland's Boys and Girls Club works tirelessly to help kids in the city believe there's more out there.
A little help and dedication puts it all within reach.
News 5's Frank Wiley got to witness that effort when he tagged along with a group of teens who took a trip to Philadelphia.
Shanale Moon, an advisor with the organization, took eight teens to LaSalle University and the University of Pennsylvania.
"I had so many friends and relatives who didn't make it to 30," said Moon. "I actually turned 30 in July and I was ecstatic about it. To me: this is the best career path I could've chosen."
Moon said sometimes, schools underperform, classrooms are filled with students who don't care to learn, and teachers who don't care to teach. She said violence was easy to find and often, teens get caught up in the trouble.
"If they stay focused and on the right path, they can do whatever they want to do," said Moon.
